Blue Valentine

IMPORTANT: I HAVE NOW MOVED OVER TO WORDPRESS. POSTS WILL CONTINUE HERE SIMULTANEOUSLY FOR A COUPLE OF WEEKS. BUT, PLEASE VISIT http://dangerdance.wordpress.com/ INSTEAD. IF YOU'VE BEEN KIND ENOUGH TO LINK THIS BLOG ON YOUR OWN SITE, PLEASE COULD YOU CHANGE IT TO THE NEW ADDRESS. THANKYOU

Having not seen it yet and been given a synopsis, I feel it would be ludicrous not to use that to describe the film. So, here it is:

"One of the standout films at this year’s Sundance, London and Cannes Film Festivals, the critically-acclaimed BLUE VALENTINE is an intense, tender and beautifully observed love story for anyone that’s ever been in love. Driven by stand-out performances from Academy Award nominees Ryan Gosling (LARS AND THE REAL GIRL, HALF NELSON) and Michelle Williams (BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN, SYNECDOCHE NEW YORK, SHUTTER ISLAND), the film follows the path of a contemporary married couple with a young daughter as they contemplate the blissful early days of their relationship in contrast to their current marital challenges. Flooded with romantic memories of their courtship when they were both full of youthful hope about their lives together, Dean and Cindy use one night to try and save their marriage. Brooklyn-based folk rock band Grizzly Bear provides a fitting soundtrack to this beautifully cool film - an honest, heartfelt and refreshingly real portrait of a relationship on the rocks."

I believe this is out on the 14th January.

If that's not enough to tempt you, then have a look at the trailer.

NYE

New Years Eve is always a tricky night to plan and so much can just go wrong.

*Cough.*

But, this year can be different.

You should definitely head over to The Old Blue Last, a 300 year old pub/hub of coolness situated right in the heart of Coolville, London and run by connoisseurs of cool, VICE.

If that's not enough to convince you, I should also mention that The OBL has been officially named as the place to find the hottest girls in London.

Quite literally, just looking at the flyer is enough to make you want to go, and also wet yourself a little bit with excitement. Why not cast your eyes down and do just that and embrace the warmth running through your pants and down your leg, it's cheaper than central heating.

Mandingo

Interested in inter-racial swinging?

Want to watch your girlfriend get nailed to the wall by a big, black man?

If this happens to be relevant to your interests, watch this.

Of course there's a little more to it than that.

It explores that most basic of human desires and why people seek this sort of lifestyle. What struck me was that by having an entire 'scene' devoted to black guys and hearing how they view it, there does seem to be some sort of underlying racism to it, but maybe that's just my white guilt.

For me, it's not quite obvious who is being exploited the most.

You make up your own minds about it.

Love Blogging

Vice and Vice Style are running a little series avec un peu de help from BlackBerry about blogging, people who love to blog and why they love blogs.

The latest one features the apparetly anonymous disneyrollergirl and Richard Nicoll. It's got some useful stuff if you want to get into fashion blogs, or maybe even if you're already into it, there may be some new stuff for you.

And, to keep the sponsors happy, the BlackBerry Torch is très cool and I very much like mine.

Kopparberg Klash

I just thought I'd give you all, my lovely reader, a gentle reminder about this wondiferous competition that is being run by VICE and Kopparberg.

Basically, if  you make films (also send stuff in if you make music, photos or clothes, but party time for you isn't quite yet) and you reckon you're the bees knees or your mum thinks your brilliant at it then send it in to Kopparberg here and you could win £1000 and get featured in VICE.

Not too shabs, eh?

Also, you would get invited to a way cool party thrown at the VICE party HQ at The Old Blue Last on July 7th, which will no doubt be full of other cool, creative types and will definitely be home to some complimentary drinks and a 'very special DJ.'

So, come on down, get involved and join the party!

The Teaches Of Peaches

You know Peaches right?  Everyone loves her, right?  Except nice, quiet boys like me who are well terrified, but we can still appreciate her awesome electro-rockingness.

Well, like Phoenix and many others she has teamed up with the Intel Creators project and she is also in a video too.

Ace.

Once again she also talks about how she creates a pretty amazing visual performance alongside her 'minimal' music.  And, looking at the video, it seems she has embraced techno-mo-lology to improve her live show.

She also makes an interesting point about how radically music has changed in the past 60 years.

You watch now!

Peaches talks technology.

Intel Creators - Phoenix

This is all about a brand spanking new project between Vice and Intel

Basically, it would appear that they've decided to give us mere mortals an insight into how all these super talented creative types, like Phoenix for example, come up with ideas to keep us simple minded folk happy with bright, flashing lights and funky beats.

They even made a nice video with Branco and Christian where they talk about how technology and the interweb has made music so much better and that these days now that when making a record you don't need to rely on pleasing ponsy, tastemaking, wannabe douchebags to be successful.

You know, people like me.

Oh well.

I'm a nice person really.

Honest.

You can even watch the video yourself here or here.  Your choice.

I have to say though, that *smug alert* having seen them live last year that they have embraced technology pretty darn well, especially with the visual aspects.

There's going to be plenty more coming from this Creators Project so be sure to keep having a gander at their new site AT LEAST once every 30 minutes.

In the meantime, I'm going to be off being super cool and going to see Crystal Castles tonight.  Should be ace.

Words

Howdy-doody partners. How goes it for you on this fair morn? Anyway, as promised I will give a few words about the pictures that lie beneath.

This year was pretty good for me, as far as live music is concerned. Kicked off big style in May for the Vice bank holiday party at Heaven where I saw Filthy Dukes play live and they were incredible, so good that I bought the album the next day, there was also the über-sexy Fan Death who also played some funky beats, but I don't think anyone else there really knew what they were about, ho-hum. Then, finally, Busy P and DJ Mehdi got on the decks and absolutely killed it, despite what Mehdi says.

However, that was just the calm before the storm. On the 10th July 2009, a small corner of south-east London became French when the Ed Banger crüe, avec Justice, took over the Coronet and threw the most amazing party.

Then, I had the privilege of seeing Friendly Fires perform their homecoming gig at the Alban Arena. I say privilege, because St Albans is not really top of the list when it comes to touring venues, in fact, if you're playing in St Albans you should probably be spending your days job hunting. They kept everyone dancing all night, and evem more incredible, the support act was Delphic!

October had the potential to be awesome, and for one magical night in Brixton, it was. Phoenix were quite simply mindblowingly good. The following weekend I had tickets for the Kitsuné party, but inexplicably, I decided not to go and have been ruing it ever since, although not as much as missing Soulwaxmas.

November, wasn't half bad either. Went to see Dragonette in Hoxton, but I was astounded that they were the opening act and were hardly advertised at all, when they were quite clearly the best band on the line-up, although it did allow me to leave and watch the Ireland France match.

To end the year, I won free tickets to see Crystal Fighters, Delphic and a little band called Kasabian, you might have heard of them, to celebrate the launch of myspce music. That night was incredible, possibly the best night of the year because the crowd were really up for it and created such an amazing atmosphere, I was buzzing all night.

Over and out.
